An important barometer with walnut veneered oak case with moulded edges and floral marquetry. The scrolls above the walnut cistern cover with open fretwork and hood decorated with barley twisted turned pillars, a decoration much used in clocks made around 1690. The silvered brass register plates with engraved flower heads and border with wheat ear design, which was a popular design until the middle of the 18th C. The weather indications in English Roman 17th C italics, with a sickle-shaped recording pointer which has to be adjusted manually. Height 126 cm. Ca. 1690 |
